“Sketch the Dome”, an illustrated competition
Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore
National and international
The competition is open to all Instagram users. All contestants subscribing to the Autography project must be over the age of 18 or, if younger, must have the explicit authorisation of a parent or guardian.
From 01.02.2018 to 31.05.2018
From 1 February to 31 May 2018 all users with an Instagram account can enter the #SketchTheDome project by following these instructions. Users should download the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore’s AUTOGRAPHY app onto their mobile devices from the official Google Play and Apple Store sites.
Using any of the creative methods proposed by the app, they should then create a drawing on the topic “Brunelleschi’s Dome” to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the architect’s presentation of the model for the Dome. Contestants may submit drawings, messages, poems or any other form of creativity envisaged by the app.
After agreeing to abide by the Rules and after entering their personal details (e-mail address), contestants must publish their entries both on the competition website and on their own Instagram profile using the #SketchTheDome and #MuseoDuomoFi hashtags.
Starting 1 June 2018, a team comprising four members of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore’s staff will select the winning graffiti from among all the entries uploaded onto the web page and tagged on Instagram. The winning entries will be judged on the extent to which they reflect the topic specified above and on their quality and originality. The judges’ decision is final.
Winners will receive an e-mail from the Secretariat at the end of the competition project. Winners will be officially announced on the communication channels of the Opera S. Maria del Fiore dal 1296 (official website, social networks) only after they have been contacted in person. In order to protect winners’ privacy, only their first names or (if they prefer) their nicknames will be publicly and officially announced.
Prizes will be awarded by 10 June 2018 at the latest.
The authors of the entries selected will win the temporary display of their work in one of the venues of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore accompanied by an official invitation to the opening day. The Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore dal 1296 will be responsible for any and all costs incurred in printing, mounting and displaying the winning entries.
In entering the competition, the authors of the drawings/messages declare and confirm that:
The Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore dal 1296 reserves the right to reject any drawings which fail to comply with the above rules.
All contestants/authors hereby authorise the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, also in accordance with Articles 10 and 320 in the Italian Civil Code and with Articles 96 and 97 in Law no. 633 dated 22.4.1941 regulating copyright, to make free, unlimited and unrestricted use of any and all digital graffiti produced using the above-mentioned app, to store said graffiti in its digital and hardcopy archives on its premises, and to use said graffiti in the manner described above, also though not exclusively through dissemination and publication on its website https://autography.operaduomo.firenze.it/il-progetto/.
